Gallery & Showcase
The Arts Commission manages and curates the Newtown Municipal Arts Gallery and the Artisans Showcase. Exhibition is open to individual artists and arts organizations and is not limited to a Newtown affiliation.
Two Art Exhibits, One Artist
Artist Bonnie Burke has created two art shows for the latest exhibit at the Newtown Municipal art gallery.
The exhibit in the first gallery, facing Simpson Street, will feature “My Fragment and Building Blocks,” abstract works inspired by a painting trip to Mexico.
It is the serenity of the pieces that is so compelling.
“The trip was an amazing experience, “she related. “I was drawn to my teacher’s oil and cold wax work and the abstract work I found in Mexico City. My fragment and building blocks work was inspired by that experience. “
“This has become a metaphor for the world around me and a way to question, are we all seeing fragments of things broken or are we all seeing fragments of things broken or are they building blocks to the future,” Bonnie noted.
The second part of the exhibit, further down the gallery, “Here, There & Everywhere,” is more representational. “My inspiration has been taken from my surroundings,” she has said. The collection of work that was painted from 2018-2022 was inspired by her travels and pictures of her friends’ travels.
“I hope you are able to enjoy the journey you are taken on in this show,” Bonnie said.
